Annexation Battle Starts to Heat Up

The Tuesday night move came almost three weeks after the commission voted against annexing the land known as the Holiday Lodge property.

The commission voted 3-to-1 to approve the annexation request by a developer who wants to build a high-rise condominium project at the west end of the Hathaway bridge. A couple weeks ago, they voted against the annexation because of the difficulty to provide city water and sewer services across the bridge.

Attorney, Derrick Bennett, asked the commissioners to reconsider, saying the owner was confident they could provide the necessary services to residents.

Panama City Beach and Bay County commissioners have gone on record as being opposed to the annexation. Some fear it will start an annexation war over property at the beach which is currently in unincorporated sections of Bay County.
