Gulf Power says it's prepared to battle power outages all across the panhandle if necessary. The company has every one of its 1400 employees on storm duty and has contacted neighboring utility companies in case outside help is necessary.
But, Gulf Power officials say their number one message to customers is to stay safe. They're advising people to avoid plugging generators directly into wall sockets, using extension cords instead.
Also, avoid those downed power lines.
"We're expecting some widespread outages with this. It could last up to 48 hours after the storm has passed. We just ask our customers to please be patient with us. We're going to work quickly, but we have to work safely," said Jeff Rogers, Gulf Power Media Relations.
If you need to report an outage at your home or business you can call toll free at 1-800-487-6937.
If you have wireless internet capabilities, you can receive safety tips or submit a service request online at www.gulfpower.com.
