Countless local children who other wise would not have had a toy to wake up to Christmas morning now will. It's all thanks to some runners who were able to give up part of their morning to attend the 3rd Annual Trot for Tots charity run.

Organizers estimate between 400 and 500 people showed up to the run Saturday morning.

The event is sponsored by the Panama City Police Dept. who partners with the Army Corp. of Engineers for the Toys for Tots program.

NewsChannel 7's Alexandra Hill even made it out to the race on Saturday.

Sgt. Jeff Becker says the toys and money they raise from Saturday's race will be matched by the national Toys for Tots program and runners say they're glad to help.

"The money that's raised and the toys counts towards the national Toys for Tots giving us more toys so it's not just the toys you see behind us, it is also much more toys they give to the community based on the items and toys we raise," says Sgt. Jeff Becker.

"I came out here for exercise and to get my 5k in and help out kids for Toys for Tots and getting them a toy and stuff," says Justin Jenkins.

It's not too late to help out the officers in their effort for Toys for Tots.

You can drop off a new unwrapped toy at the Panama City Police Dept. off 15th Street or at Panama City City Hall. Also Bill Byrd Kia and Carpet One in Panama City are accepting the toys.
