The tax collector's office in Okaloosa County is collecting more than just your taxes this holiday season, they're collecting gifts for the areas needy children in the tenth annual Christmas shoe box campaign.
The tax collector's office says this holiday season is especially important since the bleak economy has put a strain on so many households.
This year they need all the help they can get.
Just fill a shoebox with gift items to give away to a child or a family who needs a Christmas this year.
Wrap the box and lid separately in Christmas paper and drop it off in the red sleigh at the Okaloosa Tax Collectors Office.
It’s a little gesture that goes a long way says Shari Bruns, the Director of Community Relations with the Okaloosa Tax Collector’s Office.
"Imagine what can fit in a shoe box.. And they get excited about it and that's what makes it all worthwhile. We ask people to pick boys or girls from certain age groups from two to sixteen to fill these boxes and make someone's Christmas a little brighter this year."
