Feds Say No Way to Burning Toxic Dirt in Bay County's Incinerator

News Channel 7 has learned the Environmental Protection Administration has killed the proposal, saying the Bay County incinerator does not meet federal requirements.

Some Bay County officials had hoped to make a lot of money disposing of a 350,000-ton mound of dirt in Pensacola known as Mount Dioxin.

It’s part of the federal government's Superfund, established to clean-up toxic sites, but EPA officials have rejected the plan outright, saying you cannot burn hazardous waste in a municipal solid waste incinerator.

This comes as good news for local environmentalists who have been against the project since it was suggested earlier this year.
