Three people were hurt, two of them seriously injured, when a crane bent in half at a south Walton construction site. It happened in the Blue Mountain Beach section of the county at The Adagio, a high-rise condo project.
Authorities said an operator was extending the support legs on this crane when it buckled and bent in half. One part of the crane smashed into the driver's cab injuring the operator. Another part of the crane hit a worker who was in an elevator shaft.
South Walton Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the accident and both men were air-lifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. A third man was reportedly injured, but not seriously. Construction company officials at the scene said he was treated and released.
Two companies, Brassfield & Gorrie and Seaco both employ workers at the site.
Walton County sheriff's officials have not released the names of those injured.
