Walton County Fatal Wrecks

WALTON COUNTY,FL--- There were two fatal car wrecks this weekend in Walton County.

The first happened in DeFuniak Springs early Sunday morning. It left one young person in the hospital and two others dead.

Investigators with the DeFuniak Springs Police Department say it happened at 2:37a.m. on Highway 90.

They say a Walton County Sheriff's Deputy noticed this white Saturn going west on Highway 90 without headlights.

They say when the driver of the car 21-year-old Jeremy Leon Reed and his two passengers 25-year-old Beronica Dawn Thrash and 22-year-old Tarris Rynell Johnson turned onto Shoemaker Drive they continued speeding north on the road. At that point investigators say the deputy turned around and tried pulling them over, but instead the white Saturn swerved off to the left hitting a tree.

Investigators say both passengers died.

Apparently, Thrash died instantly and Johnson was later pronounced dead at the hospital. However, the driver of the car, 21-year-old Reed, is at Sacred Heart Hospital in stable condition.

Police say Reed's license is suspended and a warrant is out for his arrest.

They say alcohol may be a factor in this fatal crash.

They say it's possible charges may be coming, pending the outcome of their investigation.

The other fatal crash to tell you about also happened in Walton County.

This one happened just after 9p.m. at U.S. 331 north of Sparkle Berry Road.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers say while the driver 32-year-old Richard Thomas Hopkins was trying to over-take other northbound traffic he lost control of his car and it began to rotate clockwise out of control.

After Hopkin's car over-turned several times he was partially thrown out of the car and his passenger 45-year-old Dian Gregory was completely thrown from the car.

They say Hopkin's injuries were fatal, but Gregory is in serious condition at Bay Medical.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

It is not yet known whether alcohol was a factor in this crash.
