An Unusual Sight Over The Northwest Florida Coastline

Some strange lights over the Gulf of Mexico Friday night had lots of people calling NewsChannel Seven and asking questions.

Were they UFO's, Airplanes, Helicopters, Parachute Flares, something part of a military secret, maybe something coming from a Navy Ship?

Whatever the lights were, they caused residents and visitors along the south Walton County coastline to wonder.

NewsChannel 7's Chief Meteorologist Chris Smith wondered about it too as you can see in the video attached to this story.

on 3/12/10 - 8:30 pm, we're just south of I-10, saw 3, then, 5, then 7 bright fire orange lights in our western sky, first lined up in a straight line, then, scattering randomly @ high speeds, forming "V" patterns. Not jet afterburners; lights always facing us and not blue & white color. Entertained us @ low altitude for 2-3 minutes, then just disappeared.

People making good jokes is good for humor, but I've seen a HUGE traiangular shaped craft just pre-dawn coming off of the Gulf (used to live in St. Pete Beach) and it was no military aircraft, unless they've mastered anti-gravity and have also eliminated combustion engines...

Me and my brother saw six to seven lights in a line, though not all the way straight as mentioned by Ken from Dalevile below, moving slow at low altitude north of interstate 10 on 331 south in DeFuniak Springs at about midnight Tuesday night. We were traveling south on 331 and I first noticed the lights when we were passing Burger King. We got closer to them as we continued south and you could see a mass connected to the lights but we couldn't make out what it was completely because the only light there was outside was the lights from the interstate. There were a couple of cars pulled over along the interstate entrance ramp observing the object. It was very complex in design and looked like nothing I've ever seen. It continued moving south at low altitude at a slow speed until we couldn't see it anymore because we stopped at the gas station and it disappeared behind the trees. I see that me and my brother weren't the only ones who observed this. Very interesting indeed.

We live north of Defuniak Springs in the Leonia area and my daughter and her friend saw the lights first. Then my I, my husband and our daughter saw them from the leonia area. We stopped on the side of the road and watched them until they disappeared. My daughter first saw them around 8:30P.M. and we all saw them about 9:30P.M. This is the second time I have seen lights like this. The first time was about 1988 or 1989. Just like last night, they did the same disappearing and reappearing act. I still don't know what they were, it would be interesting to find out. My husband and I thought we might go look for them again tonight. I'm glad we are not the only ones who saw them.
