We caught a ride with the Trolley on its new route on Thursday. Although there were only a few passengers, that is sure to change as more people find out about the new route.
For the month of June, the number of riders on the whole local trolley system was up 60 percent higher than in June of 2003 and 98 percent from 2002.
This new route is sure to follow that same trend.
On Thursdays, Mexico Beach residents can catch the Trolley in their community at 8:30 and 10:30 in the morning and again at three in the afternoon.
The Trolley pick up locations are at the First Baptist Church, St. Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Mexico Beach Community Civic Center.
The Trolley will drop its passengers off at the Callaway Wal-Mart.
People wishing to take a Trolley from Callaway going to Mexico Beach can catch it at 9:30 in the morning, or two and four in the afternoon at the Wal-Mart.
This comfortable ride is also affordable. Round trips cost three dollars. The new route is run only on Thursdays at this time. If there is enough interest and public participation the schedule can be increased to include other days.
All Bay Town Trolleys are equipped with bicycle racks and wheelchair lifts.
