Moving the Panama City Airport Moves Another Step Foward

The First District Court of Appeals has upheld Circuit Judge Glenn Hess' decision to dismiss a lawsuit filed against Panama City by the relocation opponents.

The relocation opponents wanted the city to instruct its two appointed members of the Airport Authority not to approve the moving of the airport to a site near West Bay unless local voters had approved it.

The city said it couldn’t do that because the Airport Authority is an autonomous board, which is not controlled by the city. Judge Hess agreed with the city.

Airport opponents appealed and now the District Court of Appeals, on a 3 to 0 vote, agreed with Hess.

Panhandle Citizens Coalition spokesman John Hedrick called the decision “disappointing" and he said the airport opponents are considering their legal options to try and block the moving of the Panama City Airport.
