East Bay Fishing Trips Ends in Drowning

A fishing trip turns deadly for a Callaway man.

Parker police say three men were fishing under the Dupont Bridge near Tyndall Air Force Base. That's when their boat came untied from one of the platforms under the bridge.

Forty-two-year-old Ronnie Roache jumped into East Bay to try and grab it. The two men left stranded on the platform called 9-1-1 when Roache never resurfaced.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials pulled the 42-year-old's body out of the water about 20 minutes later.

Parker police say the high winds and strong currents made for disaster. Lt. Rocky Kummer says the fishing is just as good from the old bridge span and much safer than being in a small boat when the bay gets choppy.
