The Beach Club Motel on Front Beach Road caught fire around 3 pm Thursday, the location, known to attract transients, has actually been on the list of places to demolish according to Panama City Beach officials.
Once a building has been deemed a public safety issue, they take the next steps to get the problems fixed by the owner or the building knocked down. Officials say that the property had been on a list as a problem and now they're prepared to move forward.
"The likelihood of it being demolished is very high, we've already been in contact with the owner, in fact he contacted us which is a good sing and he indicated that he is going to pursue demolition of it. The tricky part now is his time may be different than ours," said Panama City Beach Building and Planning director Mel Leonard.
Leonard says the city hopes to have the building demolished within a month.
