The current dangerous dogs ordinance will be beefed up. The purpose is to put more regulations on dogs that have been deemed dangerous.

It will also require owners of dangerous dogs to have a fenced yard. Commissioners say they have been working on these changes for a while.

"What we did today was not just a knee jerk reaction. This was a reaction that we have been working towards for some time," said Commissioner Bill Dozier.

The other change involves the interlocal agreement between local cities to have the same animal control laws countywide. It also allows cities to come up with their own separate laws on top of the interlocal agreement.

Animal control officers are also given the ability to cite people for animal cruelty.
