PANAMA CITY - Starting Wednesday, it will be $50 cheaper to adopt an animal in Bay County.
The adoption free will be reduced as of October 1, from $75 to $25. The County wants to decrease the number of animals it has to put down.
“We’re hoping that this will help us adopt out more animals to good homes,” said Carol Treftz, Bay County Animal Services director.
While the adoption fee has been reduced, a $100 spay/neuter deposit is still required, per state law. The deposit is returned to the pet’s new owner once the surgery is completed.
“We want to make having an animal affordable for everyone,” Treftz said.
