Bay County Sheriff's Office: Finding Ways to Do More with Less

The Bay County Sheriff's Office is having to do more with less.
Recently the County Commission cut the department’s budget by more than 1 million dollars.
Sheriff Frank McKeithan has made no secret of how upset he is over the move, especially since he had asked for more money, but they have found ways to consolidate.
They closed two substations on the beach because of those budget cuts, but they have now opened one centralized substation on Front Beach Road in the Beach Shopping Center.
They say the new substation will be for the unincorporated areas of Panama City Beach. And, they hope having a central spot for the deputies to report will help them become more proactive when responding to areas on the beach.
“Having a central hub of an office on Front Beach Road, now we'll be able to utilize our man power a lot better,” said Lt. David Baldwin with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. “Hopefully streamline things that the public have needed in years past."
The new substation will have all the resources the sheriff's office does.
