BAY COUNTY - Tuesday commissioners voted to have the county become the fiscal agent for the trolley system's federal funding.

The West Florida Regional Planning Council was the fiscal agent responsible for dispersing the federal money to the trolley operator.

The county will charge $120,000 a year to be the fiscal agent, the same amount the previous government agency was requesting.

The move does not effect the current trolley managing company or operator.

"We felt it was the right thing to do for our county. I believe it'll bring just a small advantage to our area as far as the trolley system goes," said Commissioner Bill Dozier.

Money is a problem for the trolley system. In the last two months, Bay County Transportation Planning Organization officials have asked local government agencies for an extra $100,000 to fund the system.

All have refused except Panama City Beach, which appropriated an extra $6,000.
