The Bay Education Support Personnel union, or BESPA, and Bay District Schools have been negotiating their contract for months.

Friday afternoon, BESPA took their frustrations to the streets. Members and supporters gathered on all four corners at Highway 77 and 23rd Street in Panama City.

They're protesting Bay District Schools’ possible privatization of some jobs like lunchroom, transportation and custodial services.

Negotiations between BESPA and the district have ended in two impasses; the main sticking point is an article regarding outsourcing.

District officials say they're studying outsourcing as a cost-savings measure, but insist they haven't made a decision.

"We want what is fair. It's not always about saving a buck or saving a dollar. We do good jobs. We have employees that have been long standing employees. And it's all about the kids."

BESPA wants contract language that will guarantee those jobs after the end of this school year.
