Beware of Area Stores Holiday Return Policies

Christmas Day is tomorrow and you may receive a gift or two that you don’t want.

Many think they know the major stores exchange or return policy but think again because there are some hidden ones.

Items purchased from major department stores can be returned with a receipt or exchanged within 90 days of purchase.

If you are planning to return any electronics like computers, iPads, and e-readers to any stores, you only have 15 to 30 days to do so.

Here are some of the return policies. If you want to read the full policy, visit the store’s website.

Target:

Most unopened items in new condition returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. Some items have a modified return policy that is less than 90 days. Those items will show a “return by” date under the item on your receipt or packing slip and in the "Item details, shipping" tab if purchased on Target.com. Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a packing slip or receipt may be denied a refund or exchange. All bundled items must be returned with all components for a refund.

The following items must be returned within 30 days: Computers, netbooks, laptops, eReaders, tablets, cameras, camcorders, digital audio players, GPS systems, video game hardware, personal DVD players, and no-contract cell phones. For these items purchased between 11/1 – 12/25, the 30 day refund period will start on 12/26.

Wal-Mart:

Items purchased at a Wal-Mart store can be refunded with a receipt or exchanged within 90 days of purchase.
Walmart's No Receipt policy applies to items returned in a store only. When you return an item without a receipt, you have the option of receiving a cash refund (for purchases under $25), a Gift Card for the amount of the purchase (for purchases over $25) or making an even exchange for the product. We also follow any manufacturer's warranties.
You can make up to three No Receipt returns within a 45 day period.
The following electronics items must be returned within 15 days of receipt: Computers, Computer hardware, Camcorders, Digital cameras, GPS units, Digital music players, Tablets, E-Readers, Portable video players
Computer software must be returned unopened.
BOOKS, MOVIES, MUSIC & VIDEO GAMES
Books must be returned unused and unmarked.
CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, audiotapes, videotapes and video games must be returned unopened. If the item is defective, it can be returned within 90 days with a receipt and the original packaging. Defective items may be exchanged for the same title.
Video games hardware must be returned within 15 days of receipt. Pre-owned (refurbished) video game software: Defective items can be returned within 90 days with a receipt and the original packaging. Defective items may be exchanged for a different title if the same title is not available.

K-Mart:

K-Mart’s goal is that you are completely satisfied with your purchase. An original receipt/email confirmation dated within 90 days of the original date of purchase is required for all returns and exchanges. An original receipt /email confirmation dated within 30 days of the original date of purchase is required for all returns and exchanges of air conditioners, gas powered equipment, and jewelry and watches. It may be necessary to ask for identification for any return transaction. Returns without a receipt /email confirmation will not be accepted.
All returns and exchanges must be in the original packaging and contain all the original accessories. Some items, including music, movies, computer software, video games, and sports/toy collectibles, cannot be returned if they have been opened. Replacement products obtained in an exchange transaction will only be exchanged and are not eligible for a refund. Returns and exchanges are not allowed on any prescription drugs and special order jewelry.
Refunds will be issued in the original method of payment online and in the store with the exception of purchases made in the store by check refunds will be given as cash.

Best-Buy:

EXTENDED HOLIDAY RETURNS: Gift purchases made between November 4, 2012, and December 24, 2012, qualify for our Holiday Return and Exchange policy. Products (goods) purchased as gifts may be returned through January 24, 2013. Terms of our standard policy (including, but not limited to "non-returnable items" and "photo identification required") apply. Carrier contracts for mobile phones and other third party service providers (e.g., DirecTV contracts) do not qualify for the holiday gift policy. Geek Squad® Protection/Trade-In Plus plans returned after 30 days from date of purchase will be refunded at a pro-rated amount. No restocking fees.

Dillards:

Dillard's will issue a refund in the form and amount of the original tender paid (including sales tax) or Dillard's will issue a Dillard's Gift Card, at the customer's choice, when each of the following conditions has been met:
The merchandise must be returned within 30 days from the date of purchase, except as otherwise stated on the face of the packing slip or on the item's product page.
The merchandise must be in its original, unused condition unless there is a manufacturer's defect.
The merchandise must be accompanied by either the original Dillard's Receipt or the original Dillard's Proof of Purchase Label.
If the merchandise being returned was purchased using a credit card and we credit your account, the credit will show on the statement you receive after the issuing bank applies the credit.

JCPennys:

Happy returns. Any item, anytime, anywhere. It’s that simple.
With a receipt: items purchased at JCP are eligible for exchange or refund of the purchase price on the original method of payment.
With a gift receipt: items purchased at JCP are eligible for exchange or refund at the gift receipt price in the form of a JCP gift card.
Without a receipt: items purchased at JCP are eligible for exchange or refund at the current price issued in the form of a JCP gift card.

Kohl’s:

Kohl's is proud to offer our "No Questions Asked - Hassle Free" return policy for all purchases. We do not have a time restriction on returns. Currently our store Associates can locate Kohl's Charge purchases up to 12 months after the purchase date, and the credit can be applied to your account. Non-Kohl's Charge purchases, or purchases made outside the 12 month timeframe qualify for a Kohl's Merchandise Credit or a corporate-issued refund check.

Sears:

Sears goal is that you are completely satisfied with your purchase. If for any reason you are not satisfied, simply return your purchase in its original packaging, with your original receipt for a refund or exchange. The number of days from purchase that you have to return the merchandise varies depending upon the item as follows:

90 Days: Clothing, Footwear & Fashion Accessories, including Costume Jewelry, Beauty, Health & Personal Care Items, Infant Department Items, Bedroom & Bath Items, Luggage & Housewares, Non-Seasonal Indoor Home Décor & Furnishings and Indoor Furniture, Floor & Window Coverings, Small Kitchen Appliances (Except Floor Care), Air Mattresses & Air Beds, Automotive Accessories

60 Days: Major Home Appliances, Lawn & Garden, Patio & Outdoor Living Items, Fitness, Outdoor & Sporting Goods Items, Water Treatment, Plumbing & Heating Equipment, Floor Care Items & Vacuums, Sewing Machines, Bathroom Fixtures, Plumbing Accessories & Electrical Components, Tools, Paint & Hardware Items, Toys & Games, Holiday & Seasonal Items

30 Days: Consumer Electronics, Video Games, Movies, Music, Software, CDs, & DVDs, Mattresses (except air mattresses), Air Conditioners, Gas Powered Equipment, Watches & Fine Jewelry, Office Supplies

Holiday Return Policy for Sales from 11/11/12 - 12/24/12
Items purchased between 11/11/12 and 12/24/12 that usually have a 30 day return period can be returned through January 24, 2013. Items purchased between 11/11/12 and 12/24/12 that usually have a 60 day return period can be returned through the later of 60 days from the date of purchase or January 24, 2013.

You must report any visible damage to Major Home Appliances; Lawn & Garden & Patio Items; Outdoor Living Items; Fitness, Outdoor & Sporting Goods Equipment; Floor Care Equipment and Vacuums, and Water Treatment, Plumbing & Heating Equipment within 72 hours of home delivery to be eligible for a refund or exchange.
All returns and exchanges must be in the original packaging and contain all the original accessories and parts. We cannot refund opened music, movies, computer software, video games, and collectibles but if defective, they can be exchanged for an identical item.

Home Depot:

Receipts for purchases made with credit, debit or check within the last 90 days may be located in our system. Ask a store associate about receipt look up.

Gasoline-powered equipment may be returned within 30 days of purchase with a valid sales receipt. After 30 days, item may be sent out for repair at the customer's expense, unless covered under warranty.

Lowe’s:

If you receive an item you're dissatisfied with, you may return it within 90 days to any Lowe's store for a refund or exchange within our current return policy guidelines. 30 Days for Outdoor Power Equipment and Major Appliances: Outdoor power equipment purchases and major appliance purchases may be returned within 30 days of the date of purchase, with the original receipt. Outdoor power equipment includes mowers, chain saws, generators, pressure washers and more. Major appliances include refrigerators 9 cubic feet or larger, washing machines, dryers, range hoods and more. Lowe's will repair it, replace it or refund the purchase price based on the original method of payment.

Products must be in like-new condition in order to receive a refund. Items still covered by the manufacturer's warranty will be repaired at no cost to the customer. Repairs not covered under the warranty are the responsibility of the customer.

Toys ‘R’ Us:

Purchases must be returned within 90 days to our online Returns Center by mail will receive a refund of the price of the item and any applicable taxes will be issued in the original form of payment used to purchase the item except when returning an online item to a store and when returning an item paid for with our Pay in Store payment option.
Items must be returned, in new, or like-new condition, and in its original packaging, and with all paperwork including manuals, assembly instructions and your packing slip, as well as all accessories to ensure full credit.
We will accept returns of the following items within 45 days, from the date of purchase: Computer hardware (eReaders, Netbooks, Tablets); cameras; camcorders; digital audio players; video game hardware; presonal DVD player; no-contract cell phones and baby monitors. The original in-store receipt or online packing slip is required and the item must be returned in its original package for a refund or exchange.

Amazon:
Items shipped by Amazon.com between November 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012, may be returned until January 31, 2013, for a full refund, subject to our other return guidelines listed.
Return shipping may be deducted from the amount of your refund if the reason for your return is not the result of Amazon error.
