Bicycle Ride to Fallen Officers Memorial

BAY COUNTY-- A couple of Bay County Sheriff's Office employees are leaving Thursday for a national event to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Sally Sparks and investigator Stephen O'Brien are heading to Florham Park, New Jersey for the unity tour.

Officer Patrick P. Montoure organized the tour in May 1997 to raise public awareness to officers killed on the job.

That first year, 18 participants rode their bicycles 300 miles from New Jersey to the Fallen Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.

This year there will be 14 riders.

They're also raising money to maintain the memorial wall.

"I'm not a super experienced biker, I have been in training for about a year. So, I believe that I'm ready. What happens is we'll go about 20 miles then stop for about 15 minutes, go another 20, stop go like. it's not , it's not , it's a ride it's not a race," Sparks said.
