Panama City- According to Beverly Douds, the Lighthouse Keeper of the Cape San Blas Lighthouse, the landmark will be shut down.
The land and Keeper's Cottage are owned by Eglin Air Force Base.
Douds says Eglin officials have told her the building must be closed by October 14th.
She says the lighthouse is listed on several government web-sites as a "surplus" building and is being sold.
"I don't want to lose the lighthouse. I want to stay with it. I love the history. I've got a lot of stories still to share about with it," said Douds.
The Keeper says she hopes the lighthouse and Keeper's Cottage will be purchased by local city or county officials for historic preservation.
