CHIPLEY-- A Chipley man is in the Washington County jail held on $250,000 bond.
Twenty-one year old James Gregory Kirkland is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and robbery with a firearm.
Chipley police say Kirkland and a 16 year old driver stopped on 9th Street around 11:00 Monday night.
They say Kirkland approached 39 year old Carlon Smith of Jackson County who was standing in the street.
Kirkland allegedly tried to rob Smith, then shot him in the head.
A friend drove Smith to Northwest Florida Community Hospital, where he was treated.
As the 16 year old tried to drive away he ran into a ditch.
He and Kirkland fled the scene.
Police say they arrested Kirkland Thursday, and seized a .45 caliber handgun supposed use in the shooting.
