Bonifay- The Bonifay Police Department is busy this week gearing up for "Click It or Ticket." It's a year-round nationwide campaign aimed at catching drivers breaking the law.

"The public really has given us a lot of positive feedback on it," said Police Chief Chris Wells.

Wells said his officers will set up shop on twelve area roads Friday and Saturday. But unlike other agencies, they aren't only focused on the main roads.

"People who are in violation of the law, they're going to try and avoid the main roads, they're going to hit the back roads to try and avoid detection," said Wells.

The checkpoints include State Road 79, Highway 90, Oklahoma Street, Banfill Avenue, County Road 173, County Road 177-A, Jenkins Boulevard, McGee Road, Hubbard Street, St. John's Road, North Caryville Road, and Weeks Street.

Even with the campaign name of "Click It or Ticket," officers won't just be checking to see if you're buckled in.

"You have people driving around with warrants, we're looking for those. We're also looking for any illegal narcotic activity," said Wells.

With Wells expecting up to three hundred cars passing through these checkpoints during the two-day period, he said it takes the entire department to make an event of this size successful.

"We're out to make the road safer for people getting their families to and from the beach or wherever they're going. It takes everyone, all of the fully-sworn personnel to do it. We also rely on our auxiliary and part-time employees," said Wells.
