TALLAHASSEE, FL-- Marianna residents and business owners could soon be paying a little more for electricity.

The Florida Public Service Commission will consider a request by Florida Public Utilities Company for a temporary rate increase.
FPUC Management claims the company needs the extra money to operate, while the commission considers its request for a permanent rate increase.

The temporary increase would effect about 31,000 FPUC customers in the Marianna service area. It will amount to about $4.40 more a month for every 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a customer uses. Staff members are recommending the Public Service Commission approve the temporary increase when they meet Thursday in Tallahassee.

If so, customers would see the higher rate on their next bill. the permanent rate increase turns out to be less, FPUC would have to refund the difference to customers.
