The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving Florida more than 47-million dollars to make improvements to public housing units.

Panama City is getting the largest amount in our area, more than half a million dollars, as is Northwest Florida Regional Housing Authority out of Graceville.

Officials can use the money to build, repair, renovate or modernize the public housing in their communities.

Most of it goes to large-scale projects like new roofing, plumbing and electrical systems.
