Fire crews are on the scene of a fire at Newk's restaurant on West 23rd street in Panama City. It appears crews have the fire under control at this time.

But the ventilation system in the shopping center has caused the smoke to spread through several stores, prompting the evacuation of Publix.

NewsChannel 7 has a crew on the scene who tells us firefighters are still coming in and out of Newk's trying to identify the source of the fire.

They have created a hole in the roof trying to ventilate it. The four stores next to Newk's are roped off at this time. Crews broke the glass door of China One to investigate and ventilate that store which is right next to Publix.
