Firefighters Fight to Contain Blaze

The abandoned Beach Club motel in the 10,700 block of Front Beach Road near Churchwell Drive in the Long Beach area caught fire around three o'clock Thursday afternoon.

A passerby was the first to sound the alarm of flames and smoke pouring out the side of the building. Before long, the fire was coming through the roof of the old two story structure.

Panama City Beach fire fighters called in help from several Bay County fire departments. They were able to contain the blaze.

It's too early to speculate on a cause. But transients and vagrants were known to frequent the building.

The State Fire Marshall and the Panama City Beach Fire Chief are beginning to access the damage and try to determine the cause.

The fire was under control after about an hour and was extinguished about 2 hours later. As far as we know there have been no injuries.
