Five Indicted In Income Tax Scheme

Five Bay County men are now facing federal charges for their alleged roles in two different income tax fraud schemes.
The first indictment involves 47-year old Tracy Collier and 32-year old Versiah Taylor.
The US Attorneys Office says Taylor collected the personal information of inmates at the Okaloosa Correctional Institution, then sent that information to Collier.
They say Collier used the information to file false federal income tax returns, that resulted in more than half a million dollars in refunds.
They are both facing forty-five counts of conspiring to defraud the government, filing false claims against the United States, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
The second indictment charges 31-year old Anthony Q. Atkinson, 25-year-old Anthony l. Smith, Jr., and 30-year-old John Jerome Fagin with ten counts of the same charges.
Attorneys say the Smith and Fagin provided personal information to Atkinson, who filed false income tax returns.
They received 37,500 dollars in refunds.
If convicted, all five men face up to twenty years in prison on each count of the indictment.
