If you've been anywhere around St. Andrews bay this evening, chances are you've noticed a large fire on Shell Island.

The video to the right is what it looked like around 9:00 Monday night from Alligator Point off Magnolia Beach Road in Panama City Beach.

Forestry officials scheduled a prescribed, or controlled, burn for some sections of the island tonight. These burns help control the underbrush and prevent wildfires.

About a dozen people gathered at Alligator Point taking pictures and watching the fire.

"I came out here to see Shell Island on fire. Me and my buddy were on our way back from the beach and we saw some smoke and I was like wow, what is that? I just happened to look over and was like no way, Shell Island, a big landmark in Panama City is just blazing on fire," said a spectator, Landan White.

No word if this controlled burn got out of control. No one is in any danger, because Shell Island is uninhabited.
