Family members have now set funeral arrangements for one of the most beloved members of this community.
Hy Wakstein died Tuesday at the age of 91.
Hy opened a men's clothing store, Hy's Toggery, back in 1969, and continued to work in the Pier Park store until his death.
He was active in dozens of organizations and charities over the years.
Hy helped start Bay County's first and only Jewish Synagogue.
He was the last surviving member of the charter group that founded the Panama City Jaycees chapter.
Hy was well-known for his sense of humor and always had a good joke for his friends but he also saw his share of tragedy, when he helped liberate the Nazi Concentration Camp in Buchenwald.
Nearly 2 dozen of Hy's family members died in the concentration camps.
The Wakstein family will receive visitors Friday from 11 to 2:00 at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Panama City.
The service will begin at 2:00, with the burial taking place afterward at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
