Four Hurlburt airmen killed in a plane crash last weekend in Africa will soon be laid to rest. The local community is now trying to do their part to help the heroes' families. The Funky Blues Shack in Destin is donating 20% of all food and drink sales and door money to the U-28 memorial fund.
Those that came to have a good time at the Funky Blues Shack in Destin Saturday night, didn't forget the reason they were there.
"Hopefully we'll have a great turnout, and hopefully be able to put some money in the U28 heroes fund" said event organizer Zane Holscher.
Captain Ryan Hall, Captain Nicholas Whitlock, First Lieutenant Justin Wilkens and Senior Airman Julian Scholten are all being remembered for their acts of bravery.
"It's just tough, we are such a military area. I've had people work for me who have lost their lives in Iraq, and it's just a tough thing, I mean it really is sad" said Funky Blues Shack owner Chuck Stiles.
The four men died last Saturday when their aircraft crashed near the horn of Africa. Saturday's benefit will help off-set travel costs and other funeral expenses for the fallen airmen's families and escorts.
Z-96 personality Gilligan was at the D.J. booth until 9pm and Chris Atkinson performed until 10, followed by Hotel Oscar.
