Greenwood- A dangerous man was taken off the streets Tuesday and placed behind bars, charged with an open count of murder.

38 year old Andrew Johnson turned himself in to a Marianna Police Officer around 5:15 am Tuesday morning.

Jackson County authorities had been looking for Johnson since Sunday after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend,25 year old Krista Stevenson, to death in their Greenwood home. Johnson is the father to two of Stevenson's four children.

911 dispatchers received a call early Sunday morning from Stevenson who said her boyfriend was threatening to kill her.
Dispatchers said they could hear the situation escalating in the background of the call, but when they arrived, Stevenson had been stabbed multiple times and Johnson was on the loose.

"Jackson county is a tight knit community. Everyone was aware of [the murder] and everyone was concerned about it. And when there's someone charged with that type of crime, it affects the community. I think Jackson County as a whole is relieved and certainly law enforcement officials are relieved to have him off the streets and in jail" Major Donny Branch said.

Johnson's first appearance is set for Wednesday morning.
