Hundreds went the extra mile to raise funds to help wounded soldiers.
The 5K race kicked off Saturday morning at 9:00 am at the Bay County Courthouse.
On June 29th, 2012 Sgt. Carter Hess was injured while serving on his second deployment to Afghanistan.
He lost his left leg below the knee when an IED exploded in an area south of Kandahar.
Saturday's race was meant to be held on June 29th, the one year anniversary of his "alive day", but rain delayed the event.
Hess and his family say its their way of reaching out to other wounded soldiers.
Proceeds and donations were divided up and given to Warrior Beach Retreat, K9's for Farriors, and the Fisher House Foundation.
Nick Thomas finished first, and Darin Greer finished second.
Every runner was honored for their participation with a medal from carter himself.
