PANAMA CITY -- A lot of people spent tonight doing a little prep work for their Thanksgiving cooking.
But some took the night off to take in a local performance of a Broadway classic. They packed the Marina Civic Center for the touring production of Hello Dolly.
Hello Dolly is a Tony Award Wining Musical about a matchmaker who moves to New York.
It opened on Broadway in 1964, and has been a vehicle for many leading ladies. The current road production that played in Panama City Wednesday night stars Sally Struthers, best know for her role in a the CBS sitcom All in the Family.
Actor Garett Hawe said, "Sally Struthers is the kindest woman I’ve ever met. She knew all of our names the first day of rehearsal. She's so generous."
The current cast has been on the road since October performing all over the country.
With nearly 60 Hello Dolly cast and crew members, many say this isn't their first time working over the holiday season.
Actress Halle Morse said, "I have performed shows on Christmas day before and on all the holidays. It just kind of comes with the territory you know being an actor, you don't really have days off."
The cast and crew will spend Thanksgiving Thursday on the road, heading to the next performance Friday in Daytona Beach.
"Yesterday we were in Pensacola. It's just like, you're in a different hotel pretty much every night. It's crazy, but it’s a lot of fun,” said Morse.
They may be on the road during Thanksgiving, but they still plan to give thanks, as a group.
Morse said, "We're all going to be having dinner as a cast,”
"I know all of us and the cast are very thankful to be… to have a job and to get to do what we love,” said Hawe.
The production will tour through April. For a list of cities and date visit hellodollyontour.com.
