Bay County School Superintendent Bill Husfelt has announced his re-election bid.

More than 300-supporters gathered in the green room of the Martin Theater to hear the announcement first hand Tuesday evening.

During his first 4-year term Husfelt has had to cut the district's budget each year. He successful campaigned for a voter approved half-cent sales tax to improve school facilities and classroom technology.

Hhusfelt says he feels he's proved himself during difficult circumstances. "I mean, we've had to make the tough decisions and I think the public trusts us now, they see that we're willing to make those difficult decisions because we had to and I'm just asking for the public to continue to trust me to do that."

Husfelt received international attention in December 2010, when he courageously tried to convince school board shooter Clay Duke to release school board members, even offering himself as a hostage.

You WILL get my vote and I'll push hard for your re-election!!! What people need to understand is that the decisions that are made are made by a group and NOT just one individual, he just takes the heat for the decision and I believe that Mr. Husfelt has taken the heat and acted like the decent human being he is. The fact that he was willing to give up his life for the release of his counsel says MORE about this man then anything else. I don't say re-relect him on this act alone but He's done NOTHING but good for our schools, the economy is hard and getting harder and I believe he's made the right decisions based on what he has to work with. He doesn't cover up the treatment or failure of treatment of female employee .. they have a voice, use it!!! GO HUSFELT!!!

Don't have my vote, the cover ups and failing to protect female employees at the work place is going to cost you dearly in re-election.
