PANAMA CITY- Being in beauty pageants means more than just looking pretty on stage for Bay High School student Braylee Brown.

The 16 year old wants to give back to her community.

"Original idea came up one Sunday at church. My pastor, he mentioned something about Easter Sunday coming up and so that really got me thinking about the kids that may not always received something for Easter," said Braylee Brown, organizer.

Brown hopes to win Northwest Florida Miss Heart of the USA in August.

And with Easter around the corner-- she's wants to help needy families this holiday, but she can't do it alone.

She is reaching out to the community for items to fill Easter baskets like coloring books, crayons, and stuffed animals.

"I know when I was little, waking up on Easter and seeing what the Easter bunny had brought. It was always so much fun and hiding eggs and hunting for them and all that stuff. So I really have to think about the kids that may not experience that," said Brown.

She's trying to fill 25 baskets by April 16th to give to the Anchorage Children's Home -- a non-profit organization which serves to protect local families.

"She's always had a kind heart and when she came home with this project, it was like yes let's do it, let's go," said Cindy Brown, mother.

Brown has always been passionate about community service and has already collected over 500 service hours.

She's done food drives, cleaned up local cemeteries and helped other groups.

Brown hopes she can inspire others to get involved.

"If younger kids see this, they realize that they to can can make a difference and that they to can help others," said Brown.

She's already collected a few items for the Easter baskets, but says she still has a long way to go.
