Local Hit and Run Driver Faces a Possible 35 years in Prison

PANAMA CITY, Fla. A local woman, who was about to go on trial for a fatal hit 'n run traffic crash, pled-out Friday.

35-year-old Ida Renee Cardwell pled no contest to leaving the scene a crash involving a death and tampering with evidence.

Cardwell was driving west on East 15th Street on the night of May 24th. As she approached the intersection of Harrison Avenue, she hit the back of a motorcycle, driven by 21-year old Ethan Casey.

Cardwell immediately drove away. Casey died at the scene.

Cardwell removed items from her car to conceal the crash. Authorities arrested her 3-days later.

After he no contest plea, Circuit Judge Brantley Clark found her guilty and set her sentencing date for next Thursday. Cardwell faces up to 35-years in prison.
