Local Muslims and their friends and family are pausing to remember people killed in Syria. They're also asking you to become aware of what's going on and to urge others to help.

The Bay County Islamic Society and local chapter of the Syrian American Council held an informational event at Gulf Coast State College Saturday evening.

Calling it "Genocide in Syria", the event was an effort to create awareness and spark action.

"Through social media, many people are becoming more aware and that's definitely helping the Syrian people but they are appealing to us to do more. They need our financial help. They need us to pressure our politicians to do something because it’s been going on for way too long and it needs to stop," said Reem, a local with family in Syria who does not wish to disclose her last name.

The International Red Cross is trying to help people leave the besieged city of Homs. The Red Cross says last night it was only able to take out fewer than thirty people starting with women and children.

Well, at least the Syrian people has the right to keep and bear arms...and should be able to defend themselves...what? Total gun control in Syria. Nevermind. Gun control = people control where citizens become slaves.

Sounds like the Muslims are moving to non Muslim country's and attempting to change the country to the muslim religion and way of life much like they are doing here in the United States but are running into problems in some locations. America better wake uo before it's too late

I don't know what to think about a government wanting to be in power so bad that it would kill it's own people. Seems that is defeating ones power. I guess the rulers of that country have gone mad. It needs to stop, can't the people rise up and kill the ones that are killing them. Can't a country that has millions of people do something their selves ?
