WEWAHITCHKA - The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning shooting in Wewahitchka.
They’re not releasing much information at this time, but NewsChannel 7 has learned the alleged shooter is 21-year-old Dakota Ake.
Ake and some friends were at his mother’s house at Lake Alice. Around 3:00 a.m., Ake went into the house and came back out with a gun. Minutes later, one of his friends was shot in the chest. Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was intentional or an accident.
The Sheriff’s Office says the victim, whose name is being withheld by investigators, is listed in critical condition at Bay Medical Center/Sacred Heart in Panama City. He’s expected to survive.
Investigators are talking to Ake’s friends who witnessed the shooting. Ake was questioned at the Gulf County Detention Center, but was released about 12:30 this afternoon.
