Man Trying to Become the 1st Person to Bike Cross the US Twice Within 12 Months

MLK Day saw a lot of marching and walking across our region. Perhaps one man would have preferred to run.

Last year, Chris Nicholas became the thirtieth person ever to run solo across the United States. Now he's trying to become the first person to cross the US twice on a bicycle within twelve months.

Nicholas began his cross country adventure in Portland, Maine in October. He arrived in Key West on January 1st.

He pulled into Bay County Monday, on the return trip to San Diego, a round-trip of more than six thousand miles.

Besides making it into the record books, Nicholas is also trying to raise 25,000 dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project, Make a Wish Foundation, and St. Jude Children's Hospital.

"It's been a great journey. When I ran across the country, I was the 30th person to run solo across the US. And now, to be the first person to ever cross the country twice in twelve months, it's exhilarating. It's exciting for me. But, you know, that's just something that I can put down on paper. But, to be able to raise the $25,000 for charity, that's the important part," said Nicholas.
