Panama City- Edward Ritter owns 2.5 acres of land in Fountain.
Until recently, most of the land has been covered in trees and brush.
Ritter began clearing part of the land to build a garden.
That’s when he came across something unusual.
“ I came up on a big bush and I started cutting it down and I found a grave back here," claims Ritter.
The grave had a concrete covering, but someone had broken into it, exposing what appears to be human remains.
Ritter called the Bay County Sheriff's Office to report the find.
Sheriff investigators called in the Medical Examiner's Office to investigate.
“They told them to put all the remains back inside the grave, cover it up, and that was it,” said Ritter.
Ritter says the seller never disclosed the grave when he bought the house.
He believes they may not have known about the site.
Now, he wants to either move, or to have the grave moved to a cemetery.
County officials say Ritter will need to contact the Health Department in order to get the proper permit to have the remains removed.
