Panama City- In day one of testimony in the trial against manslaughter suspect Patrick Bass, nine witnesses took the stand. Both sides spent around six hours grilling them.

The state is trying to prove Bass pulled the trigger in the shooting death of Anthony Petraca in May 2011. That would make him guilty of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It'll be a crucial decision by the jury in the case against Bass because his defense argues he acted out of self defense, using the Stand Your Ground law.

The defense has also hinted to an argument of necessity meaning the jury could find him not guilty of the felony charge if they ultimately believe he was trying to protect himself.

Bass is expected to take the stand Thursday along with a few more witnesses. The judge should hand the case to the jury before day's end.
