It was an emotional day for many law enforcement officers as they dedicated a new memorial outside of the Bay County Government Building to fallen heroes.

The permanent fixture holds the names of local law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

"It brings back a lot of memories. You know? The good times that we had with father," said Floyd Moore.

His father was a Bay County Sheriffs Deputy killed in the line of duty.

"A wonderful man. I grew up in his footsteps and I was also in law enforcement for several years as well here locally," said Moore.

"Obviously it's a very emotional time for everybody and these families and I just think this is a wonderful event."

Others reflect on their duties, never knowing for sure, if they'll make it home after work.

"I came so close to not doing what we all vow to do every single day. At the end of the shift, we go home to our wives and our children and I came so close two years ago and I just give God all the glory for allowing me to even be a part of this today," said Mike Jones the Safety Director for Bay District Schools.

The ceremony included a 21 gun salute, followed by a helicopter fly-over marking the cooperation and dedication of fellow officers to the fallen.

"May the last name on that wall be the last name on the wall in Bay County."

The memorial is located between the Bay County Government Building and the library and is a project of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class of 2011-2012.
