PANAMA CITY BEACH-- A major drug bust in Harris County, Gerogia, may keep a popular illegal drug off our streets.

Authorities said they've seized a large drug shipment that was headed for Bay County.

The investigation began about nine weeks ago in the Columbus area. Columbus authorities say there is a distinct connection between their community and ours.

The bust began June 21, when Harris County deputies pulled over a white Chevy Impala for having stolen plates. After searching the car, deputies found 500 grams of crystal meth, a gun, and more than $5,000 in cash.

They arrested 31-year-old Andrea McInally from Southport, Florida and 29 year old Angela Nash of Grantville, Georgia, for drug trafficking.

"Anytime we get a bust regardless of if it's a local agency or an agency outside of our area that's cracking down on drugs that's a good bust for everybody that's involved, especially for the community," said Chief Drew Whitman of Panama City Beach Police Department.

They may have started in Georgia, but they were headed here to Panama City Beach. Harris County deputies say the two already made seven trips to the area to sell the drug, this would have been their eighth.

"If they've already made seven trips down here that stuff's gone, that's why they're coming down with the eighth trip, that meth they've already smoked it used it," said Whitman.

Whitman says the city has always been fighting the war on drugs, he says its a never ending battle. The key is to stay one step ahead.

"The most important thing is to keep it away from our youth. Our youth are our number one priority so i try to block anything that comes to kids, " adds Whitman.

Harris County deputies say they've arrested seven people so far in the case and charged them with meth trafficking.

Authorities estimate the street value of the meth at $850,000.
They also seized 19 vehicles and more than $13,000 in cash.
