Choctawhatchee Bay- A sad ending to a week-long search for a missing boater in Walton County. Seven days after Mary Esther resident Robert Gregory, 41 years old, disappeared, his body finally surfaced Sunday.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call Sunday morning just after 9:00 from a boater who found a body. Sheriff's beach and marine officials responded to the area in the middle of the bay north of County Road 393, later confirming that the body was indeed that of Gregory.

Gregory and his nephew Tyler Carpenter, 18 years old, were out in the bay a week ago allegedly fishing for flounder. According to investigators rough waters caused their boat to capsize. A passing driver spotted Carpenter alive, and he survived, but there was no sign of Gregory.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office along with Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officials launched an all-out search using boats, a helicopter, even a cadaver dog, but nothing, that is until Sunday's unfortunate discovery.

The F.W.C. is still investigating the boating accident. Autopsy results along with the final report could take up to 12 weeks.
