West Side Story is considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time, by many.
Apparently, Panama City Beach will be the back-drop to a movie similar to the classic tale.
David Winters, one of the West Side Story's original Broadway cast members, and a star in the movie, has written and is directing "East Side Story."
The crew will begin filming January 13th and Winters is looking for local talent.
Winters has had a long and successful career as a performer, choreographer, and director, working on everything from West Side Story to Elvis films, even The Monkees TV series.
Now, Winters is working on an updated version of West Side Story called East Side Story.
"It's a love story between a boy and a girl from opposing backgrounds. She's a well to do girl from Beverly Hills. He's a poor dishwasher working at her father's hotel," said Winters.
Most of the filming will take place in Bay County, featuring local hot spots like Club La Vela.
Winters says a Spring Break destination is a great setting.
"I've heard there's 300,000 people here and with the music and the dancing and these two people falling in love. I think it will be very special," said Winters.
The seven week production will begin on January 13th.
Winters encouraged locals to watch the filming in progress and to also audition for dancer slots which are still open.
