Panama City - There are nearly a dozen city seats up for grabs in the upcoming municipal Super Tuesday Elections. Qualifying for the candidates began at noon Monday.
According to the Supervisor of Elections Office website only one person has qualified Monday; Robert Thompson running for the Mayor of Callaway. Three seats are up in Callaway including Mayor Kenneth Meers' who will seek reelection. The ward three and four seats are also on the ballot. They are currently held by George Smith and Mike Jones, but neither of them filed for reelection.
In Mexico Beach, two councilmen's terms are up this year. Group four councilman Gary Woodham has not filed for election and his seat is up. Also, the group five seat is on the ballot. Incumbent Bobby Pollock has filed for reelection.
Mayor Gayle Oberst will run for reelection for Panama City Beach Mayor. A few challengers have filed but have not qualified yet. One is Councilman Ken Nelson who's reached his term limit as ward four councilman. So his seat will be on the ballot along with Ward two, currently held by Rick Russell.
And Two Springfield commission seats will also go to the vote. People will vote for wards one and two representatives. Those seats are currently filled by Carl Curti and Phillip Dykes, and no one has filed to run against them.
Qualifying ends Friday at noon.
