Friday afternoon, Panama City city manager Ken Hammons named Scott Ervin as the new police chief for the Panama City Police Department.
Ervin, who has served as law enforcement in Panama City since 1999 says that the position was one of his lifetime goals.
"I entered in here with the hope of one day being the chief of this organization and it just shows that if you remain dedicated, that you persevere through the good and the bad times that go along with this career field and you do the things you need to do, it's inspiring to the other employees that they too can accomplish their goals," said Ervin.
Ervin has been the acting police chief since John Van Etten retired in October.
The position pays a little more than $91,000.
