About 20 people have been arrested and thousands of pounds of marijuana seized in coordinated raids in the Panama City area and in central Florida.
The raids by federal agents as well as local law enforcement authorities broke up what was called the Gulf Cartel.
Central Florida indictments claim the cartel was responsible for bringing thousands of pounds of marijuana to Panama City, where it was distributed locally as well as reshipped to drug dealers in Jacksonville and Orlando.
The feds say the group returned millions of dollars to Panama City where it was exchanged for new marijuana shipments.
The central Florida indictment says the headquarters for the operation was MacAllen, Texas. It also mentioned that a shipment of nearly 3-thousand pounds of marijuana was expected to arrive in Panama City Monday, and that federal agents expected to intercept that shipment during raids Monday night.
Sources tell NewsChannel 7 that local and federal officer arrested a dozen people in Washington County Monday night and seized thousands of pounds of marijuana.
Authorities aren't talk about Monday night's raids, but northern Bay County and Washington County residents reported to NewsChannel 7 that there was large police presence with helicopters in the area.
Authorities are expected to provide more information Wednesday.

The war on drugs is a joke, it's just a way to rotate people through the judicial system so the courts, lawyers, etc can make money.
All they really did was open the door for the next low man on the totem pole to expand his dealings. We all know there is always someone else waiting in line to take their place. Legalize it, tax it, regulate it. Its 100000 times safer than the synthetic garbage that is being sold in the gas stations and head shops that is sending people to the emergency rooms. The natural stuff will only send you to the cupboard in search of something to munch on.
Not even 7 years ago, the Gulf Cartel left a string of dead bodies in Pensacola, normal people trying to make a decent in the United States,as an example to the fellow Cartel in Mexico. Human beings were treated no better than last nights garbage. It was truly frightening and if this is happening right now and there is a suspect still at large, I am staying right here until I know he is in jail. These people who kill have no conscience, there is no collateral damage to them. This is our home and we need to make sure that everyone is aware of what is going on.
