PCB City Council Considers Tougher Scooter Regulations

PANAMA CITY BEACH - Panama City Beach City Council members are thinking about imposing tougher requirements for scooter rental businesses.

Beach Council members passed the first reading of an ordinance creating those requirements at Thursday's meeting.

One would require all renters to wear bright green vests with the word "RENTAL" embroidered on the back.

Businesses will also have to provide renters with helmets.

The renter must wear them on the business's property, but can remove it after leaving the property.

Each scooter will carry a bright-colored flag to help drivers see them.

Renters will be required to carry a brochure with them at all times, explaining the basic rules of the road.

The council will discuss insurance requirement at a later date.

The second and final ordinance reading will take place at the next council meeting.
