Panama City Might Loosen Alcohol Restrictions

PANAMA CITY Panama City Officials are also considering a proposal to loosen alcohol restrictions during special events.

It would allow people to buy drinks from downtown restaurants, then carry them out of the restaurant or bar to attend the special event taking place outside.

Right now alcohol vendors are have the concession for alcoholic beverages during festivals and events.

Commissioners believe that's unfair to the local bars and restaurants.

Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki "I mean they're the ones who pay taxes year round to try and sustain themselves in business, so whenever there are a lot of people downtown, that someone can go into their establishment, and they could walk out of there with a beverage in their hand."

Right now commissioners are focused on the St. Andrews Marina area and the Downtown Panama City area which host events like Friday Fest and Mardi Gras.

Commissioners are seeking state approval of the proposal.
